Who /what is your favorite painter/picture?
When I was younger I fell under the spell of Salvador Dali, and was impressed by pop art and Warhol. Now that I'm older I find grace/serenity/comfort in the works of John William Waterhouse. One of my favorites by him is My Sweet Rose (aka The Soul of the Rose).

Please tell me your favorites in kind. Thank You.
I'm sorry. Just type in John William Waterhouse The soul of the Rose and click on top selection with noted http above.
I almost chose Klimts The Kiss. I love all the gilding and colors of love.
Dannae is...so alive. I also love The Virgin and though not known for paintings of nature I want to walk into his Trees and never reappear (Mudslinger*)

My lover Kyojin is artist, study art history of world, he say Jan Vermeer van Delft is greatest painter of history, his painting "Artist At His Studio" is his masterpiece, no other artist of history can duplicate this painting have contrast even at warm and cool blacks. Second greatest is Raphael da Urbino. His "School of Athens" is great painting, complex but simple too. Third greatest is Diego Velasquez. His "Las Meninas" is great. Salvador Dali agree. Strange thing, despite all my formal training in art, I'm enamored by an impressionist painter who some may consider a hack. There isn't much written of him/her. The artist is FM McKay, whose works were reprinted on several jigsaw puzzles in the early 50s. I use the word, hack, because many in academia would consider it too commercial, both visually, and in message. I personally am attracted, because the artist paints shady lanes on the Eastern seaboard, images that are so close to the ones I dream.

Paolo Veronese for his bright, etheric colors http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paolo_Veronese and
Jan Vermeer for his "veiled emotions" (referencing "Vermeer 1632-1675: Veiled Emotions," by Norbert Schneider) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Vermeer
As a painter's consciousness is reflected in or impressed upon his or her canvas, Paolo Veronese probably had a most imaginative and beautiful mind, similar to Shakespeare's.

Gustav Klimt....just because I find his work beautiful and (some pieces) quite erotic
