when opening Word for Mac, how do I prevent a new blank document from appearing by default?

Whenever I open Word (for Mac), a new blank document automaticallly pops up. I don't want that since I'll usually need to navigate to an existing document instead.

I checked System Preferences for Word, but didn't see any possibilities for disallowing the automatic blank document on opening.

Anyone have other suggestions? Thanks!

No, pretty much all WP programs do that.

I think it's because if you start the program and there's no main window, it's easy to click on the desktop and boing, you're not in the program anymore.

Of course you can navigate to the existing document in the Finder and double-click it. That launches the program that created it, so you wouldn't see the blank page, you'd see the document you wanted.

this could sound strange, yet make confident the text fabric merely isn't white. you have secret agent ware or something that switched the text fabric colour from black to white...yet you will probable nonetheless see the cursor, permitting you to type.
