Is providing homework answers a disservice to the asker?
And doesn’t it defeat the purpose of doing homework in order to teach the student personal responsibility that they will take with them throughout their life? Statistics indicate that the US education is ranked lower than other nations, and the drop out rate has significantly risen, the grading system has been “dumped down” to a 60 as passing, and with all that money spent on improving schools, it would appear that this “assistance and enabling” is adding to the problem and teaching the art of cheating. Please provide your thoughts on the matter.
Assisting someone is fine. The point that I was making regarding “helping” is to show the steps needed to solve the problem and not actually doing the homework for them by way of flat out giving the answers, editing their own work, and even providing websites that they are to look up themselves. Now, many teachers encourage children to search on-line for answers, but I don't think this is what they meant and unfortunately for these kids not many of the questions get answered, and those that are may not be answered correctly (sometimes purposely). So, they’re taking a risk.
<Regardless of what the statistics are showing on education within the USA is likely irrelevant to this forum.> Homework does contribute to education statistics, and the ranking among nations. The argument for assigning homework (usually 10 minutes added per study per grade) is because studies show that students perform better on state mandated tests by doing it. Research performed by Duke University found: “It appears middle and high school kids gain more academically by doing their homework. The average high school student doing homework outperformed 69% of the students in a class with no homework.”
Students, whom go onto college, earn better wages than those who don’t and statistically, many drop outs have difficulties with the law and poverty issues. I know there is a Depression on, and this fact could be debated, but, this principle still holds true. The economy won’t last this way forever.
BTW: it’s been mentioned by other IDs, that Yahoo often deletes any what is perceived as negative responses directed to the askers telling them to do their own work.

Mod,
I guess it's like anything else. There is moderation that has to be applied. Some questioners may pose an abuse to the Y!A model and others are genuinely seeking direction. This previous weekend for example I answered in detail 3 questions (2 of which were by the same user) answers on California Spanish Missions and showed how this could and/or could not be linked to the water infrastructure in the State of California. Shame on me for being "dupped". After I posted my responses (at different times within the History section) the persons in question took my detail and then deleted the question entirely. This was in my view a blatant disrespectful use of Y!A because to me it was the strongest indication that "they" did not want to be caught plagarizing by their Instructors/Professors. This however is the extreme case. In all reality most of the people seeking information for school work that come here can become enthused if directed/encouraged properly with a given response.
What Y!A doesn't do effectively is monitor the abusers of homework questions. Instead the slightest little infringement upon their "rules" will cause most often an unjust "violation". The violations (normally a deduction of 10 points or total suspension) seem more often to be mood dependent upon some reader and/or answerer's interpretation than they are quantifiable "violations" per the terms use of this forum. The other thing to consider here is that where the education system may be failing in the USA it is not (will not be) going to be adjusted and/or corrected by rendering completely the inability of students to come to this forum to seek answers. Regardless of what the statistics are showing on education within the USA is likely irrelevant to this forum.
We all are entitled to our opinions however and I am certain there will be some here that will disagree with mine; some too may actually agree.
Thanks,
Gerry D. :)

How can the asker abuse me in query? If someone abused any person at the same time asking a query, folks who file could file him earlier than he has an possibility to pick the first-class reply.

Providing the answer is not useful. However, explaining how you got the answer is. It is true that the teacher probably explained it, but we can help by explaining it again.
