Does anyone know the name of the English preacher who claimed Charles Darwin said?
that man was descended from apes. This statement does not exist in "The Origin of Species". Darwin only proposed that all creatures develop (evolve) adaptations that make them better suited to the environment in which they live.

Samuel "Soapy Sam" Wilberforce famously walked into a trap in a debate with Huxley by asking if Huxley was descended from a monkey on his grandfather's or grandmother's side (a not so subtle accusation of bastardy) when Huxley responded he would rather be descended from an honest ape than a dishonest clergyman who used cheap debating tricks rather than honestly seek truth.

btw; The fact that Darwin avoided discussing human origins in "Origin of Species" is meaningless since he discussed them in depth in "Descent of Man". Humans are not only descended from apes (not from "ape like creatures"), humans ARE apes.
