What is your opinion of my poetic Request?

REQUEST

by Elaine

I ask Him to forget me

only for Him to let me

face the South and walk

with impunity until I float

and then until I sink

oblivious to Earth

my body food for fish

my bones forming a reef

where the bottom of

the food chain

will find shelter in me.

Update:

Neon, the Ocean is to my south.

Update 2:

This should teach you something, Michael, because this poem is a lesson. I trash 9 out of 10 of my poems. I no longer want to post the good ones here; they get contaminated. I am happy that you and Neon recognize a bad poem when you see one.

Must be a night off for the poets in YAP, usually when you and Jill post a poem; I'm expecting something really good, but I have to echo Neon's comment here.

Seems like you wrote this as an afterthought Elaine, and we all know how good you really are.

Well. Maybe not a world-class poem, but as suicide poems on YAP go, it's a gold-medalist. :)

Seriously, I don't think it's a bad piece at all. Asking God (I take from the uppercase "Him") to look aside, to just not take care of you as he presumably always has, is interesting. I also find something new in the perspective of settling to the Earth after drowning. Not just sinking, but going to back to earth. "Lost at sea" is the usual way of thinking about this, and searches go on for weeks to find such unlucky people, so that they may be returned to the earth.

It would be a prayer if you changed "Him" to "You."

Yowee I maybe don't understand any bad of this at all?

Course I have scraps in piles on the floor

I'd never rush to a publisher, forgetting to close the door,

I guess though in some clarity, and reading comments

in my defense, self critique might be a pretty good policy.

I don't know the signifigance of facing South unless it is with your faith. Returning to the Earth: dust to dust carries much symbolism. My opinion on your poem? Perhaps not one of your better ones but that of course is just my opinion.

    I liked it.

I didn't get suicidal. I got, "Last Will and Testament."

    Just me.
