Wall insulation can be an expandable foam or polystyrene balls or sheets of wadding.

They can be put between the two layers of a cavity wall by pouring them in from the top if the top is accessable or by drilling holes in the wall and squirting the foam in or blowing the polystyrene balls in using a special high pressure blowing machine, or putting the wadding in place as the wall is being built.

Here are the two walls of a cavity wall with the gap filled with polystyrene balls which are just the same as the ones used in packaging to protect things from shock if they are dropped.

Insulation can be built into a cavity wall as the wall is built, either as wadding or as sheets of foam as on here

Roof insulation can be done with the same materials but usually it's done with wadding made of glass fibre which comes in big rolls or mats which are are just rolled out or laid over the ceiling plaster and cut to fit around beams and joists.

It the quickest and cheapest way to do it and it works very well. To increase the insulation just lay another lot over the top.

Here is some roof insulation in a roll being layed out in an attic. Protective clothing must be woen when dealing with glass fibre because it's dangerous to breath in tiny pieces of glass that might come off it and can it damage the eyes and skin badly and causes rashes.

This is the type that comes as thick mats of wadding

On here the wadding is right under the roofing and held in place with long straps.

If you visit you local DIY or home improvement store you can see sacks of polystyrene balls and rolls of insulation material on sale.

Yes, it is. There are various grades of fiberglass insulation, denoted with an 'R' rating. The higher the number following the 'R' the thicker the insulation. For most home construction contractors use R-13 but you can use R-19 or even R-21 if you prefer.

I am going through this. I have finished drywalling four rooms. Two rooms are sanded and two have already been painted. I did buy a little more sheetrock then was needed. Just go at it a room at a time. There was wallpaper on the walls already. We did remove the paper. All the walls were solid plank. This was an older home. I had a friend to help me put the sheetrock up. This work is very tiring. The worst were the ceilings. Thank goodness you don't have to do this. It should be very easy since they don't need to be drywalled. You will need sheet rock mud, sheetrock tape, and sand paper. Be sure to buy a cutter for the sheetrock. It is just a little knife to scape a line. To cut, all you do is tap when finished.

Yes, they use the same insulation for both BUT there are Different Grades such as R13, R19 etc! The higher the number the Greater the Insulation!

Cavity wall insulation is expandable foam. Ceiling (loft) insulation is wool/fibre type product.

They can be the same, they can be different, as the other answers imply.

Question is not very meaningful, like asking if you make a roof from the same materials as the walls. Again, sometimes yes, sometimes no.
