Consumer confidence is down in Oct. Could political ads have anything to do with that?

How many times can we hear that things are bad (no matter who's saying it or why) without starting to believe that things are bad?

I don't have to look at political advertisements to know things are not good. I just have to go to the grocery store, or gas station to see that it costs more to buy the same basic necessities today than it did last month. I am not doing anything different but my paycheck is not going as far as it was. If I am noticing it, I have no doubt other consumers are noticing it too. That does not inspire a lot of confidence!

Maybe it has something to do with the dollar falling about 12% since June 2010. That's quantitative easing for you.
