I was wondering if I choose not to believe in atheism, does it exist, since it is based on a LACK of belief?

I'm sure this will offend someone, but I'm thinking since it is a LACK of belief (as many atheists proclaim), it technically isn't there, like, say, a lack of water or lack of tolerance, that sort of deal. Lack of belief implies the belief is absent and therefore, nonexistent.

I apologize in advance if this offends anyone.

Update:

Not argueing semantics, many MANY atheists insist that atheism is a "lack of belief", literally.

I just think it is an ironic paradox.

Update 2:

Did anyone see the word "if" in my question?

Update 3:

"Atheism", not "atheists"!

ALL isms are belief systems. ism is a Latin suffix meaning "a belief in". Atheism IS a belief system therefore. It is a belief in no god, ergo, it is a belief. There is no shame in that. Some people have a bug up their *** over some silly useless concept of not defining yourself on a lack of belief. WHY DOES IT MATTER?

As a Buddhist who does not believe in God, I call myself a NONtheist. I proudly (yet humbly :)) define myself on a lack of belief. But I am many other things, like ALL atheists.

I am not offended. Atheism is just a term for someone who does not believe in a god or gods.

I could argue that there is no evidence at all for any gods or god so atheism is the default position.

People who do not believe in a god exist - I am one of them. I would say my position and other non believers positions is the correct one because we go with what can be proved.

I can prove I exist, and other atheists exist so where or not you agree with the term atheism, the fact that we exist is provable.

Your god is not. Not matter what trickery you try you just can not prove any god exists.

No, because that just means your ignorant of Atheism, you can't choose NOT to believe in it once you've heard of it, Atheism is a lack of belief in Deities. You can choose whether or not to follow Atheism, but you can't not believe in a valid term.

How this is different then god:

God is more than a term, it is an alleged superpowerful being which cannot be tested and controls all events in our lives, and everyone who doesn't like it goes to an unpleasant afterlife for eternity-which also cannot be tested.

How do we test the existence of Atheism?

    Dictionary.

It doesn't offend, it just amazes me how entirely someone can miss the point because of semantics. A lack of a belief in a god implies that there is no belief in that god. That attitude or philosophy is LABELED as atheism. Atheism isn't a thing, it's a viewpoint.

The Atheists lack of belief does not mean religion doesn't exist, it simply means those beliefs are not valid. You obviously have no comprehension of Rational thought or the English language. I am offended by your ignorance

Atheism does not involve belief (faith) in the religious sense. You can choose to believe in God or choose to not, depending on how much evidence you require before you believe what others tell you.

Your lack of belief in water doesn't change the fact that water exists. Your god is strictly a belief as there is no objective evidence that he exists. I simply am not convinced your god exists. Don't feel bad though. I'm not convinced Thor exists either.

atheists believe that there is no god.

so no there is no lack of belief.

you can be an atheist and believe many many other things but the actual belief is that there is no god.

Well, you're arguing semantics, which is believed by most everybody to be a waste of time.

Atheists do not believe in a god (the prefix "a-" being a general negative in Greek and "Theos" being the word for God).

there isnt much to wonder about here. atheism is not a religion, atheism doesnt have rituals that come with it or some kind of supernatural essence of any kind that you need to devote yourself to.

it just means "i dont believe in religion and god". thats it.
