Can the heart remain unchanged though the outside sheds its leaves?
AUTUMN CHANGE

Like the giant oak
rooted to the ground
whose ever-changing leaves
sing with a shining sound,
like the oak’s small seed
the acorn, which will grow
into another giant oak
as days and years pass slow,
so do my leaves change,
turn many a different hue,
although deep in my core
I’m what I’ve been to you.

the seasons come, the seasons go
through winter chill to bursting spring
then summer suns and leafy fall
whilst all around I sense the change
the loss of you remains the same
your poem Elaine brought to mind this short one I penned about my Dad's death 20 years ago. I believe in our own way we are saying the same thing

Isn't that a basic hope or premise
that beneath the surface,
life, faith, even love can grow
or at least be held to, nurtured
at a point in time.
