    Here is my best guess.

The odds of announcing an engagement by year-end 2010 are 30%.

announcing an engagement from January - April 2011: 20%

Announcing an engagement from April - December 2011: 15%

Announcing an engagement after January 2012: 15%

They will not get married: 20%

This couple simply has a way of disappointing when it comes to announcements about engagements, and I can see Kate deciding to back out. It could happen.

I think they year 2011 at some time is my best guess if they do get married, there is no need to make the Olympics and the Jubilee any bigger, and the British public wants a wedding now.

I disagree with Mrs Minerva, the announcement is surely to come from Clarence House, the official residence of the Prince of Wales. Buckingham Palace will issue an announcement shortly after granting the usage of Westminster Abbey as a wedding venue. I doubt the wedding with be at St. Pauls. since his mother and father were married there. Who wants to be reminded of that?

I think they're probably already engaged (and most likely have been for a while). The question is will the wedding take place in 11', 12', or 13'. If they plan to marry in 11' then I would think they'd have to announce at least 6 months prior and since it will no doubt be a summer wedding than I would expect an announcement by March 1st at the latest. If by spring there is no announcement than it won't be 11'. I think next month is too early to announce a wedding for next summer.

I can understand why some might say they should marry in 12' because it would add to the Olympics and the Jubilee, and Prince Philip also turns 90 that year, but If they marry in the summer of 12' that will be a massive amount of work, planning, and pomp for the monarchy to handle in one summer. This is why my money is on either 11' or 13'. 13' also makes sense because that is when he'll be finished with his 3 years in the RAF.

So if by spring of next year there is still no announcement then I'm thinking 13'.

I really think that they have decided to combine the wedding with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebration in June of 2012. It will be a glorious summer for London with the Olympics in July.

Perhaps manufacturers of commemorative plates hope that an engagement will be announce soon, so that they can sell their wares to the public again.

Source(s): About a year ago I saw advertisements for commemorative plates and such that trumpeted Prince William's and Kate's engagement.

Well, 50-50 odds....as usual, as the only sure answer is likely to come by way of an announcement that Buckingham Palace will announce "with pleasure".

I hope with every hope within me that poor Kate is not subjected to all the press scrutiny and the attention of the public that PAYS the press to scrutinize....like William's mother was.

I also hope that she totally intellectually grasps the different between celebrity and royal behavior. It will save her a lot of heartache down the road.

It can't hurt to announce an engagement. Announcing an engagement doesn't cost the taxpayers anything....and it will provide a bright spot in the dismal news being broadcast every day as a result of the horrible economic conditions the UK is slogging through just as the US is.

Excellent question, dear Evie. You know, one is absolutely sworn to secrecy about the imminent nuptials between Prince William and the Middleton girl but suffice to say that yours truly has already purchased a Breville Sandwich Toaster as a wedding present for the happy couple. One gave exactly the same present to his dear mamma and Charles on the occasion of their marriage in 1981 although one never did get it back when they divorced, despite asking Charles to return it.

Now, I shall say no more on the matter as I have said more than enough already but between you and me, keep your diary free for next July. You may well indeed be accompanying the 7th Earl of Lucan as his guest on this most auspicious of occasions. Now, not a word to anyone dear Evie, there's a good girl.
