Can you starve when you are fat? If not why isn't not eating a little while a good weight lose strategy?

I have often wondered this. I mean you store fat for periods of famine so they don't die of starvation. So if we are storing fat for no good reason why isn't it a good idea just not to eat to get rid of it?

Starving is the unhealthy way of losing weight. This is because of body is a stubborn machine. We can't simply starve ourselves if we want to lose weight. You see if you starve yourself, you are not getting any nutrients into your body to function properly. The main nutrients are carbohydrates, proteins, fats and many more. Carbohydrates are for providing you with energy. Proteins are to repair your muscles and other area of your body. Fats are not totally bad. Fats act as a cushion for our organs. Once you starve yourself, your body will switch to starvation mode and your metabolism will drop. This is because your body has taken your muscles for energy. Once all your muscles are gone, then it will take your fats.

Conclusion, you have to exercise to gain muscle mass to burn away the fats.

Think of it this way...If you don't eat, your body will believe it's not going to get "fuel" for a long time so it will start to store fat and hold onto the fat instead of getting rid of it. Only as a last resort or 'survival method' your body will start to eat itself and yes I mean EAT itself...not good and not healthy. If you eat frequently but small amounts (and good food mind you), your body will think "hmmm, I don't need the fat that I have so I'll get rid of this fat that I have. You actually trick your body into losing weight. The same goes for water intake. Drinking less will probably make you puffy. Drinking more (according to your current weight and height) you trick your body into losing the water it currently stores. When you start working out and getting some muscle, your body will burn even more fat easier. Hence the reason men can lose weight faster than women...more muscle mass. Hope I helped.

Because the human body isn't designed for something so inhuman. True maybe it would be useful if you had no food or nourishment, but doing that actually makes you fatter. It's a fact that if a person starves themself and then eats something it goes to the fat reserves just incase the human body may be endangered of starvation again. So don't do it.

During times of famine you still eat just not as much. Yes you can starve if you are fat. Not eating isn't a safe, healthy or effective weight loss plan.

Just because you have fat doesn't mean you don't have to eat. Yes fat gives you energy, but the fat that you have on you is only used when your body is lacking food. You also need carbs, proteins, vitamins and minerals to maintain a healthy body. Without food your body will begin to eat itself, literally. And fat is very important, it keeps you warm, it provides a source of energy for your body and it helps with other cells and organs in the body. Not eating is never a solution to anything. Exhaustion will set in and you will not be able to function. Mal-nurished people are very sick and in very bad condition.
