It will take a year or more, but it can be done. Mow each week on the same day such as every Saturday. Water the yard deeply after you mow. Get that grass growing so it will chock out the spurs.

Make a mental note at how the spur plants look so that you can pull them up when you see them in the lawn. They grow the spurs which drop down into the soil and a new plant starts all over again. Don't let them get a foothold again.

Ocala Florida? Sand spurs like dry sandy soil and warm weather, kind of like where you live. If you water enough other grasses or weeds will choke out the spurs. If not, you're stuck, so to speak. I grew up in Tampa. There isn't anything that gets rid of some things here. Cinch bugs, sand spurs and mosquitos just come with the real estate.
