What is this welfare nation up to?

So I am told I make to much money to qualify for food stamps or any kind of housing assistance, yet I do not make enough to afford a small apartment with utilities etc...I went to the homeless shelter and learned that they only take people from their hometowns, and one cannot draw any sort of income. So what am I supposed to do? Yet when I'm looking around at the homeless shelter, guys using laptops, and most people driving nice cars, this country is crazy!

Update:

So you mean to tell me every little swinging Richard, and homeless Joe is supposed to have a better living situation than me? WOW!!!

Update 2:

Less expensive part of town? BS, I have looked all over my hometown, and have traveled damn near the whole USA and prices are pretty high and flat across the board. This is Soviet Communism if I have ever heard of it!!!

Do you know anyone you can live with and share an apartment? That seems to be the way if you can't afford your own, you find someone to share with or you rent a room from someone else. There has to be something somewhere that will work for you.

Check Craigslist for room to rent in your city.

Where I live, if you go to the government subsidized housing projects, all the cars you'll see are VERY nice, much nicer than the cars you see in my nice condo building. I guess they don't have the mortgage payments and other mundane obligations to be encumbered with.

You're supposed to move to a less expensive part of town.
