Christians to answer please..Our time to die is predetermined?

I'm christian and love the Lord, but just wondering where in the Bible it tells us that in God's plans before we were born, is our predetermined time to leave this earth? So, if that is so, is it senseless to pray for longer time for someone who is ill or dying? I realize God listens to all who pray in the name of Jesus, but as I attended a funeral today, I heard that the pastor told the deceased christian's loved one this.

Update:

Thanks for the answers, BUT can anyone tell me where in the bible it says this??

Update 2:

Prayer may change situations, but CAN it change your time to die is my question? And I realize you do not pray for the dead.

Update 3:

Tyndale..I see no email address to contact you?

The Old Testament has I know at least 2 examples of someone asking God to extend their life to which God did. By these examples we then know that God can extend our lives.

In 2KIngs 20 we see Hezekiah praying to the Lord to extend his life and God grants his request. This is the only place we see this in scripture.

In Hebrews 9:27 we see that people are appointed to die once...

In Acts 20:9 we see Paul praying for someone to come back from the dead and they do so for the glory of God.

In 2Tim 4:7 we see Paul saying that he finished the race (giving the implication that some may die before they finish). He was ready to die and he knew that the time was near.

I could go on with the scriptural support for the point I am trying to make which is this: God has a direct will for our lives before we are born and he is omniscient so he knows exactly when we will be born and when we will die. However, we can die before he intends and we can live longer than he originally intends. This is all within his power to permit because he is God and his ways are not our ways nor or his thgouhts our thoughts.

    There's no easy answer...

Verses on predestination in the King James version of the Bible are Eph. 1:5 and 11. I think God's the only one that knows when we'll go and leave this Earth unless He lets you know somehow. I knew someone who before she died, God found a way to let her know that it was her time to go and she had the chance to see everyone she wanted to see before she left. It might not be a big thing to anyone but I don't think this was coincidence. I think God gave her some time to meet with them. Anyway, when someone dies, I don't think it's necessary to pray for them anymore. They're in God's hands now, but unless God has the plan to raise someone back to life again, it'll be vindicated somehow. But if their in an illness or about to die, praying can still change the situation and turn it around. People can be healed just through prayer of faith. I hope I helped. =)

God knows everything, apparently, so he knows when, where and how you will die. But God chooses not to interfere with our lives, because that would contradict free will. So obviously prayer does no good because the outcome of everything is predetermined. Not just prayers for the dying, any kind of praying at all is futile because he's quite literally heard it all before, when he made it all happen in the first place.

    Christianity = slavery.

As I understand it, God knows everything about our life before we are born. What we do, what choices we make, how we die and when. This is one of those questions that has confused Christians forever. If he already knows what is to happen, what's the point? He already knows if we will trust in his word or not, what mistakes we make before we make them. So the question is, do we really have free will? Why pray?

I say pray anyways, trust in his love, know that he understands the situation more than you. The bible says that he will see into your heart. God will serve you if you serve him. He is going to put you in situations to see how you will react. Keep going to him with an open heart and he will guide you. We'll be able to see his plan after we pass this earth, until then, some things are still above our head.

But before time began he knew we would pray.An prayer effects things. So the date would change. An life is not predetermined.Suppose you are so smart to create a universe. Not just here science says there are 13 dimensions. So that means 13 universes. An all with his words.Don't you think he can see the big picture that is our lives. An how it effects others.

I'm thinking that he is referring to the fact that God knows all things past, present and future so of course he would know when each of us will be joining himr! Is that such a bad thing? I think not.

God can change His mind about your future... He can change His mind about a person who is predetermined to go to hell... if He sees repentance or if He sees suffering. In Hezekiah's case, it was suffering that moved God to intervene in his life and extend it.

    God's grace = God's pity

I think it is for some of the people on Earth, but otherwise it is just foreseen by God.

I have been around long enough and in to many different "scrapes" I'll call them to discard the fact that I should have died so many many times. Yet here I am. Shot, burned, vehicle accidents, cave ins, electrocution.

If it is not your time, it is not your time.

    He does listen.
