Why do you need to get her alone? March into her group of friends and talk to her directly. That's the kind of confidence people respond to. Also use humour.
You: Hey, I like those shoes you're wearing.
Her: Oh, thanks.
You: But I feel kinda bad for them.
Her: Why??
You: Because I'll be stepping on them a lot at the dance. [Here you give a knowing half-smile, looking her straight in the eye] Nobody else reserved your shoes for a trampling, right? [Due to the way it's structured, this question invites the answer "No"] [A bigger smile here]

Take her into a room where no one is or outside. Maybe get her flowers or a card and ask her then. If she says yes it will be a story she will tell forever! We girls love that romantic stuff.
