Inducing labour? Any suggestions?
I feel like I've tried everything I'd heard of (other than castor oil, which I'm just not desperate enough to try). I'm 40.5 weeks pregnant now, and will be induced in a week if it doesnt happen naturally.
We've been having regular sex. I've tried nipple stimulation, spicy foods, walking, birth ball, orgasms, acupressure......I'm running out of ideas, and am willing to try just about anything safe/natural to avoid a pitocin drip.

Sorry to tell you, but nothing will work. The only thing that works is when those hormones start flowing (which is what Pitocin is) that kicks you into labor. All that other stuff is just old wives' tales. Sometimes, coincidentally, it "works" for people - meaning they happen to go into labor near the time they have tried some of it. None of it will MAKE you go into labor.
The only thing that has been proven to help is that if you are already in early labor, walking (or physical activity of whatever type) can help to keep things moving along.
If you end up with Pitocin, it's not the worst thing ever. Been there, done that, have no regrets. People tell lots of ridiculous horror stories.

Well I'm not there yet (10 weeks to go still) but I took the aqua-cise class at the gym a few weeks ago and the instructor told me that some women go into labor (when they're ready) the next day after taking the class. She said some drs tell their patients to go to the class to help start labor.
My acupuncturist said there is a point she can try if I needed help at that time.
I've also heard pedicures help (as the point is on your big toe).
But I think what the other ladies say about trying everything and the last thing you tried you were already ready to go into labor so you say it helped you, but it could be anything. Good luck on your adventure!!!

Haha. Oh I tried it ALL with my second child (everything you mentioned ... but no castor oil). It didn't work and made me frustrated. I was induced with him. While this is not true for all ... my induction (with pitocin) was actually much less painful than natural labor with my first child. It was also very fast (4 hours). So --- if you do end up having an induction ... they don't necessarily have to be a terrible experience!
Can't wait to hear updates!!!

you wont necessarily need the pitocin drip if you go 2 weeks late. i was just given the prostoglandin gel and that was enough to get me going and then had a long but normal labour.
i tried: sex, reflexology, acupuncture, acupressure, baths, aromatherapy. hot curries, walks, baths, massage, orgasms, nipple stimulation - even going out for dinner thinking if i took my mind off it it would happen. NOTHING. went 14 days late and was induced. I even had 2 sweeps! nothing. if they dont want to come yet, they wont, its as simple as that. i believe they can slightly miscalculate your dates.
also bit of trivia: in france a 1st pregnancy is EXPECTED to be 41 weeks long. you are not considered overdue in france until you have reached 42 weeks. interesting that its that common to go over!
Best advice I can give is to try to forget about it and enjoy your last few days with your partner. have bubble baths, try to get as much sleep as you can. you are not very late yet and there is every possibility that you will go into labour on your own. maybe allow them to do a sweep when you reach 41 weeks that worked for a lot of my friends.
best of luck.
go to the cinema and out for dinner hun seriously one way and another that baby will be here in less than 2 weeks and life will never be the same again.x

Your doctor is certainly monitoring your health and that of your baby. If he/she says one more week, then induce, then that is what needs to happen. Tell your doctor that you want to try a different method from a pitocin drip and ask what alternatives there are. Or do a search on 'alternatives to pitocin'. Just be careful about some of the links that pop up. If it seems far-fetched or dangerous, don't do it.

Nothing works. Some people are lucky when those things work for them. That's because their baby was ready to come. Your baby may not be ready to come, they come on their own. I tried everything and then i ended up getting induced at 41 weeks 1 day at 8am and didn't have my son until 10:58pm. But whatever you do, I hope things work out for you :]

Nothing work's, trust me. I tried everything to bring on labor with my first, she still came 9 day's late and that was because I had a sweep done. You'll go into labor when your bodies good and ready or if you get induced medically for health reasons.

I tried dancing really crazy and getting down with my bad self. I ended up going into labor 5 hours later. I don't know if that contributed but you never know!
