Are there other areas on Yahoo that give Yahoo points?
I am wondering If other areas of Yahoo give points for participating and what is the benefit of amassing all of these Yahoo points?

No benefit, really. Higher points and levels simply allow you to ask and answer even more. So if you get frustrated reaching your daily limit, you need to earn more points so your limit is higher. If you never hit your limit - you're fine where you are.
As to earning points, you do that by answering (+2) and voting (+1) - which does not mean 'rating' with the thumbs up/down, but really voting. You do that by clicking the "In Voting" tab at the top of any YA list of questions and choosing questions from that list.
There are 2 one-time bonuses as well: taking and passing the Community Guidelines quiz and saving 3 searches on the "Advanced Search" link.
