It would seem like we need to start working with women and helping them deal with the cause of that weight gain. Most overweight women suffered a sexual assault somewhere in their lives so the weight gain is a defense that their mind creates because they did not deal with a trauma in their lives. We need to stop making social sciences taboo in society. We need to make women feel comfortable with seeking counseling and help them through their trauma, not cause them more trauma.

Here's the weird thing: People in the "Overweight" category have longer, healthier lives than people within their suggested BMI. This suggests to me that BMIs should be adjusted to reflect the facts... What a BMI says is "overweight" is actually normal, and healthy. Obesity is still a problem... but there are a number of people who are just too thin for all the benefits of modern diets. Add to that, with the BMIs skewed by world populations (much of which are 3rd world citizens who are "normal" for not getting to eat every day), many "Overweight" (normal) Americans go on diets because they feel they're fat... That starts them on the weightloss-weightgain rollercoaster, which is far worse for your health than being 10 or 20 pounds "overweight." (normal and healthy)

Compare women magizine models to the women in men magizines. big difference. both are trying to sell products but one (men) is using the healthy body because men are physically attracted to healthy women.
