Faster way is to take train and subway.

Step 1: Buy ticket at Ticket Vending Machine or Ticket Window. One way is $13.

Step 2: Take New Jersey Transit's Northeast Corridor from New Brunswick to Penn Station.

    Step 3: Go to 34th St-Penn Station (8th Av) side for Queens-bound (E) to Lexington Av-53rd St.

Step 4: Exit to 50th St via downtown (6) platform and walk to Park Av/48th St entrance to Grand Central.

Step 5: Again, buy ticket at Ticket Vending Machine and $16 peak and $13 off peak.

Step 6: Take Metro-North's Harlem Line to White Plains.

    Via Bus:

Coach USA takes you to Port Authority Bus Terminal where convient transfer to subway lines 42nd St Shuttle or Queens-bound (7) to Grand Central.

Go to Madison Av/47th St and wait for Bee-Line BxM4C which is $7.50 you must have Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard or coins.

Put in amount of $9.75 ($2.25 for subway).

If you do not want to spend money on Metro-North or BxM4C, you could also take subway and Bee-Line buses to White Plains.

Buy 1-Day Pass (December 30th, 1-Day Pass is no longer available)

    From 34th St-Penn Station (7th Av side)

Take Bronx-bound (1) to 242nd St Subway for Route 1W White Plains bus. During AM Hours, W3 express is available.

Take (2) to Pelham Parkway and take W60, W61, W62 bus to White Plains.

Nobody provides direct service from New Brunswick to White Plains, but it's not hard to get there.

You can take the Suburban Transit/Coach USA bus from New Brunswick to New York. At the bus terminal in NY, go downstairs to the subway, buy a Metrocard and pass through the gates, and follow the signs to the S shuttle. It's a fairly long walk. Take the S one stop to the other end, Grand Central. Go upstairs, buy a train ticket to White Plains, and take a Harlem Line train that stops in White Plains.

The bus is fairly slow. You can also take the NJ Transit train from New Brunswick to Penn Station NY. Follow signs to the 1/2/3 7th ave (not 8th ave) subway, buy a Metrocard, pass through the gates, take any 1, 2, or 3 uptown train one stop to Times Square, follow signs to the S shuttle and follow the instructions above.

I trust first guy or woman, whether that's named forty second St shuttle, no longer cases squareshuttle. once you're from White Plains or North White elementary Station, you're able to desire to take Bee-Line bus to realize those stations.
