Do you find it disappointing, enlightening,or have neutral stance that 4 in 10 Americans believe in creationism?

A new Gallup poll shows that 4 in 10 Americans believe in strict creationism.

Note: In the poll it asks if God created man about 10,000 years ago.

"A small minority of Americans hold the "secular evolution" view that humans evolved with no influence from God -- but the number has risen from 9% in 1982 to 16% today."

"[The] 40% of Americans who hold the "creationist" view that God created humans as is 10,000 years ago is the lowest in Gallup's history of asking this question, and down from a high point of 47% in 1993 and 1999."

What are your thoughts on post-graduates believing God had something to with evolution? At 49 percent.

Here is the GALLUP POLL.

Update:

Dave, it doesn't say (from what I can tell).

I'm not so upset at the 49% of Post-Grads, at least they accept the scientific account.

However, the fact that over 40% of Americans are Young-Earth creationists scares the living daylights out of me.

Our post-WWII industrial high is starting to wear off big time, and unless more Americans get behind the science bandwagon, we're going to lose our status as superpower rather quickly.

it is sad and points to a HUGE problem in the education system. If even the higher education system is graduating people so ignorant, then there is a serious problem that needs to be dealt with.

No wonder the rest of the world thinks of americans as idiots. Worst of all, the dominant anti-intellectual culture of the U.S. only ensures that people will keep rejecting knowledge and embracing mythology and superstition.

do you really believe in evolution or just adaptation. Most people including Darwin himself believed in adaptation not some crazy complete overhaul of a species into another. Darwin's belief was twisted by you guessed it the politicians of his time to say what it does now. By his death he didn't even believe what everyone was saying he taught. I believe in Creationism as i am a Christian. But i believe God created us to be able to adapt to our situation.

Recent polls have shown 29% of american christians fall into the extremist category as defined by normal christian churches!

It is interesting that the perversion of christianity in this way is almost entirely American!

It's just another disturbing indication of the total lack of quality education available in the American school system.
