potty pads or outdoors?

with a small 6 week old shih-tzu is it better to try and potty train inside on a potty pad or ignore the winter cold and just let him go out side? it is definitely not at all that i dont want to wait in the cold with him, i just feel he is too little to be in such horible cold! eather way your opinion is much needed!

Update:

Thank you guys for all your input, but would training him to go in both places confuse him? w really think i am going to try to do the outside .... do really hate the look of the mat with yellow spots just sitting there.

Train him outdoors. He will only be outside for around 5 minutes which wernt hurt him. If you train him on puppy pads, he will think its exeptable to go inside all the time. You will have a very difficult time training a 6 week old pup as it should still be with its mother for at least another 2 weeks 4 even better!!!

Well, I think you should do a combination of both. on really cold days he should be trained to use the mat but if the weather is a little more fair this time of year then let him enjoy the outside. Ask the vet what the best options are for now since he is so young.

I think it should be both. It is true that he is a puppy, so every once in a while take it out there and wait until he goes. If you just use pads, he might think that a blanket or something is a pad, or even when there isn't one down he'll end up going on the floor. Good luck=P

I'd say do both. The baby has to learn about outside too. I would keep a close eye on the temperature though. He really is young and this is baby's first winter. Good Luck!

I say outdoor, my dog goes outside. When it snows, he eats the snow xD , but if its really cold, he runs out and goes, then runs back in... A fence really helps. My friend uses pads, and i find it really gross because when you walk in, you see a pad, with pee and poop all over it. Also, its a waste of material, i think. lol Also, did you just post a question like 5 mins ago ? Because i saw it. Like you scared you puppy to hold it in ! (x
