Is the British TV show "Have I got News for You" a left-wing show?

Every time I watch it, it seems very left-wing in bias. Paul Merton is definately a left-winger, but they always seem to attack right-wing targets predominantly. Popular targets are right-wing political figures, right-wing newspapers, Cameron, Thatcher, Daily Mail, etc.

They seem to go a lot easier on newspapers such as the Gaurdian and Independent, and they sometimes attack Tony Blair and Gordon Brown but generally they seem to go a lot eaiser on them than they do on right-wing figures.

So would "Have I got News for You" be classed as a left-wing political comedy show?

I have been watching it since it started and to be fair they knock everybody and one another.

Yes they do ad-lib but the truth is, the programme is scripted. Prerecorded and edited by a legal team.

Another fact, they 'know' a lot more about what is 'going on' than they are allowed to enlighten us, the viewing public about. So you have to listen and read between the lines at odd quips which tell us what we are not supposed to know, without them actually saying it. Quite cleverly done some times. 00

I think people get confused between left and right. I'd say yes the show is culturally left wing, as is the BBC generally. Their is the cultural left and right and the economic left and right. People can be culturally right and economically left and vica versa. Its often not as simple as left on every issue or right on an issue which is how many present the arguments including the show.

Ian Hislop isn't left wing. They didn't seem to go easy on Tony Blair or Gordon Brown.

They attack anybody, left or right. They substituted a tub of lard for Roy Hattersley on Paul Merton's team when he didn't turn up.

Maybe that's just your impression. But the BBC generally is perceived to be left-wing because broadcasters and entertainers usually are, though they have politicians of all parties on the show, so it's probably unavoidable, though the BBC will of course try as hard as it can to look unbiased.

Let's face it, papers like the Daily Mail just call out to be ridiculed, and I say that as a Conservative voter. I don't think it's a particularly left-wing show, though yes - they could have a LOT of fun with Harriet Harman, who is just plain nuts, and often have with Peter Mandelson. What a shame the Prince of Darkness has "retired" and can no longer be got at :(

The Independent is a newspaper. The Daily Mail is a national disgrace. No, "Have I got News for You" is not a left wing show. Ian Hislop is not and never has been a member of the Communist Party.

they get people on from all different political parties,

the fact that the right wing politicians are shown to be dunces should tell you something other than the show is left wing.

I don't see how anyone could possibly describe the other team captain - Ian Hislop - as left wing.
