How can you get a copy of the title/deed transfer from a residential sale?
My wife and her husband at the time bought a house in LA in 2002, but then started the process for a divorce. Before the divorce was finalized, he told her that the house was being foreclosed and she must move out or the sherriff would force her to move out. Only now, she found out that he actually sold the house to his sister for a hefty profit. The house was sold while they were still married (but separated) prior to the divorce. Since the house was in her name, she is guessing that he must have forged her signature for the tranfer of the house deed/title and kept the profit for himself.
If she doesn't know any info on who handled the transfer (title company, etc.), how can she get a copy of the transfer so she can see the signatures for herself, to use in court to sue for half of the profit from the sale of this house?

If she can not go to the county clerk any title company in that state can print up a copy for her.

Walk into the county clerk's office in the county where the property is located. Look up her name and ask for a copy. Should be about .50 a page. Deeds are public records; will have to have her signature on it if she was an owner to transfer. Might have the name of a title company on it; different jurisdictions have different recording requirements and they change from year to year. THE clerk can give you a better idea of that.

Correct -- county clerks office.
If it is a forgery, get a lawyer...starting with your divorce lawyer (assuming she had a decent one and a separate one from her husband).
This is a really big deal and if she can prove it, she will be able to rain down all kinds of stink on everyone...if she handles it the right way.

Go to this website, dig through the public records, call the title company that ensured the mortgage and deed were recorded. If they wont comply, push back with your attorney.
