Why is calling out a troll on Yahoo answers a violation of the TOS?

I got a violation notice from Yahoo Answers for commenting that somebody was obviously trollnig when asking a ridiculous question. AFTER my answer was voted the best by other yahoo users, Yahoo deleted the question, my answer and deducted 10 points from my account. Why?

It does not matter WHY it is, it is simply enough to be aware that IT IS. States so in the HELP sections that explain the rules more clearly:

"Posting a question or answer to call out another community member for any reason is not allowed. This includes calling out suspected point-gamers and trolls, even if your accusations turn out to be correct."

    http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/answers/abuse/abu...

Also, there is the added factor that calling out a troll - is NOT an answer. Answers must attempt to actually answer the question as posted:

"When you post an answer, it must attempt to answer the question being asked."

    http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/answers/abuse/gui...

So it is actually a double violation. Bottom line? If you think something is a troll question, just report it and move on. DO NOT feed the trolls.

  • "Calling out" other users violates the Y!A Community Guidelines.

Not making a legitimate attempt to answer a question violates the Y!A Community Guidelines.

You should have reported the question if it violated the CG, or just ignored it & moved on.

Questions & answers here are eligible to be reported and deleted at any time - - being resolved does not provide immunity.

It is a violation to call out another member in a question or answer. You must use the report abuse button.

That is called chatting. Yahoo needs to go down on the rules a bit because I always end up ''chatting'' when I'm not.

The reason they give is "in order to maintain a safe and orderly community".

Because you cannot target or insult another user

  • That's considered chatting.
