I've withdrew from opiates many times. The best way as I remember, is to take only enough to get you thru the day uncomfortably. If you can take four a day and feel comfortable take 3 instead, then 2, then 1, then a half in concurrent days. You will experience some withdrawal no matter what you do, but making it last over time won't be so bad when you run out.
If you don't want to get back on them, delete the numbers of all the friends you have that use from your phone and don't talk to them. Join a support group like NA and get a sponsor.

I know someone who had the same problem, and she would only take a half pill at a time until she hit a certain high, and then would back down bit by bit every day. She said that worked for her because she was also motivated to get off vicodin as well. She was on it for 2 years due to a back muscle she pulled. Her doctor was crazy though, every month she got a prescription for 180 of them. Now that's just not right.

You should look into a local support group or treatment. Some things are much much harder to get off of. It's very rare should a person go for treatment to also be charged with a crime, so don't let that stop you.
