Where in the Bible does it talk about following a Pastor?

We are trying to find scripture stating anything about following the Pastor of the church/ man of God.

We are not to follow Pastors unless they are following God. We are to follow Pastors as they follow Christ. Too many Christians follow too many Pastors too often. Don't follow your Pastor, follow Christ.

It is good to have someone that is more knowledgeable than we are to help teach us, but 1 John chapter 27 might help with your question. If a person is really trying to live right God will teach that person. The bible does record that we should not fail to assemble ourselves together. Matthew 28:19 records Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, babtizing them in the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holyghost. Acts 2 and 38 explains what that name is.

  • Personally, as a follower of Christ, I am weary about following anyone, but God. But the 'brethren' are there to encourage each other, and fellowship with those in Christ is extremely important to encourage us, partner with us, and support us.

I rarely call anyone, 'Pastor', unless I am sure that the man is appointed by God as a pastor.

In terms of the Bible, there seems to be no reference for the word 'pastor, other than in Jeremiah 17:16: "As for me, I have not hastened from [being] a pastor to follow thee: neither have I desired the woeful day; thou knowest: that which came out of my lips was [right] before thee" (KJV) -- but this passage does not seem to be referring to a spiritual leader, so much as being in a state of being that allows us to follow God, not men.

Later translations, such as the 'NIV' (New International Version), used by most modern Christians in churches, does not even contain the word 'Pastor', not even in the above passage! (And translate it as 'shepherd').

In fairness to 'Christian Pastors', they are to be 'shepherds' of their 'flock'--and there are some, I dare say, who do God's work after all.

It doesn't say anything about a pastor but, it does say to imitate the faith of those taking the lead among you. Hebrews 13:17

The Bible NEVER states that you should follow a pastor.

Instead, the Bible states that we should follow Jesus.

    Go in peace.

And, always remember: -- Jesus loves you!!

    Sincerely,

    Uncle Floyd

    Be blessed!

    JESUS IS LORD!!

It doesn't. Scripture actually talks about the church being the body of Christ in unity. No one is "of Paul" or "Of Apollos" and so on. All are of Christ.

Hebrews 13:17- 17Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

The manner in which the priest is addressed

The traditional formula, still often used, is: “Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. It has been [length of time] since my last Confession.”—U.S. Catholic magazine, October 1982, p. 6.

Matt. 23:1, 9, JB: “Jesus said, . . . ‘You must call no one on earth your father, since you have only one Father, and he is in heaven.’”
