At what point does gift money become yours?

Let's say your friend gave you $1 for Christmas. With that dollar, you buy a coke. But all the sudden your friend wants the coke because technically they "bought" it. Can they do that, or did the money become legally yours the second they gave it to you?

Once the money changed hands it officially became yours....but I mean its $1, be a good friend and let him have a sip of the coke. :)

    They gave you the money.

The minute it transferred hands, it became yours.

You could be nice and share the Coke, though.

    Your call on that.

A gift is a gift. Once it's presented and accepted, that's a binding contract.

The minute the money is in your hand it is yours to do with what you want.
