Is Miguel Cotto a Hall of Famer?

Update:

I won't be offended if you say no, as long as you can explain it, and you can even get the B.A by saying no.

It's a tricky question.I would say yes but as a Cotto fan my opinion could be biased lol but if i was to point out a reason why he shouldn't be it would be his losses to Pacquiao and Margarito because he was badly beaten by both.Miguel has a very good record but i would say he only had 3 mega-fights which were against Mosley,Pacquiao and Margarito and he lost 2/3.People really took notice of Cotto when he schooled Mosley in their fight and confirmed him as the real deal but then came Margarito.Cotto was winning the fight easy until Antonio started raining those huge blows on Cotto and at the time i couldn't believe it but since the plaster in the gloves scandal i firmly believe that Margarito cheated in that fight and took away the dominance aura Cotto once had in the ring.Pacquiao beat Cotto fair and square but i thought Cotto had the wrong game plan and that played right into Manny's hands, maybe Manny Steward in Cotto's corner for that fight it could have been a different fight.I think Cotto will be judged most from those 3 fights but Cotto ain't retired yet and his next few fights will be crucial in Cotto's career with a fight against p4p #3 Sergio Martinez or possible rematches with Margarito or Pacquiao looming Cotto still has a lot to offer so i firmly believe Cotto could be a future hall of famer!!

Yes I believe that Miguel Cotto is a future Hall of Famer! Here are some facts on this great fighter:

Has held titles in three different weight classes (light welter, welter and light middle) Defended his various titles a total of 12 times.

Has a record of 35-2-0 with 28 kayo's and still has a lot of great fights left in him.

Fights at a very high level of competition and has fought the following fighters:

    Yuri Foreman

    Manny Pacquiao

    Joshua Clottey

    Antonio Margarito

    Shane Mosley

    Zab Judah

    Carlos Quintana

    Paul Malignaggi

    Ricardo Torres.

He is one of my favorite fighters and I feel that he will continue to be a great fighters for quite a few more years.

Absolutely. A four time world champion in three weight classes with some wins over very game competition. He beat Zab Judah, Shane Mosley, Joshua Clottey, and his only losses are to plaster boy and Manny Pacquiao after his prime was taken. Plenty of people have gotten into the Hall of Fame on A LOT less. Imagine what more he could have accomplished had Margacheato not taken his prime.

Miguel Cotto is a hall of famer indeed. He has been in the ring with the greatest of this past decade and have a very nice record. He's the one that is beating Mayweather, if they do have a rematch

Source(s): Freddie Roach is a legend and he believes that Cotto would knocked Floyd out

    No, not quite.

What big names has he beaten?

    ~Ricardo Torres

~A past his prime Shane Mosley

    ~Paulie Malignaggi

    ~Zab Judah

They are all good but are B level fighters, and plus Miguel Cotto has never been a dominant champion at 140 or147 like Manny Pacquaio or Floyd Mayweather has been.

Unfourtunately the fight with Antoino Margarito tarnished his legacy in my eyes although it was laced with controversy.

If Miguel Cotto would have Defeated an undefeated Ricky Hatton, Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquaio then i would think he would deserve to go to the hall of fame but he has never beaten any big names in their prime.

    Yes but not extremely convincingly.

Pros- Beat Mosley, beat Clottey, beat Judah, beat Malignaggi, beat Torres, beat Quintana, beat Corley. Pretty impressive record. Being a Champion in three different weight classes is not easy. Has never complained about a loss. The definition of a true warrior. Never ducked anybody.

Cons- his biggest win was a very close one against a Mosley out of his prime. Barely beat Clottey, lost to Pacquiao, lost to Margarito. Got kayoed by the 2 biggest opponents he has fought. Runs out of gas late in fights(Mosley, Clottey,Margs, Pac)

Yes I believe he is, 4 time world champion in 3 weight divisions and has beaten some great fighters.

His loss against Margarito will always be questioned because of Margarito getting caught with trying to use plaster of paris.

Cotto's career is getting a new life now that he is with Steward and has gained confidence since beating Foreman I'm looking forward to watch him do some great things he is only 30 years old.

  • Oh heck yes he is.

Been a world champ multiple times, fought the best, never ducks anyone, and gives fans their money's worth by coming to fight EVERY SINGLE TIME OUT. When you see a Miguel Cotto fight, you know you are going to see action for however long it lasts, one of the most exciting I've seen in my time and one of Puerto Rico's best.
