Is verifying pool data normal?

Hi. I just recently built my new computer and went well. I turned it on then it it eventually goes and stays on verifying dmi pool data. It still doesn't have an operating system. I plan to get win 7 maybe tommarrow. I was just wondering it is normal to say this since it doesn't have an os installed in it yet. Just wanna know if I built it correctly.

DMI - or Desktop Management Interface is a part of the hardware abstraction layer in the BIOS programming. When the BIOS says "Verifying DMI pool data" it is verifying the table of data it sends to the operating system, it's pretty much the last thing the BIOS does before it boots a bootable media.

It does give an error message after this right? I don't remember exactly but something like "no bootable media" or "inaccessible boot device" or something like that.

There are cases when a machine can fail to boot and hang on verifying DMI pool data, but I shouldn't address that in this question because its likely that you don't even have that problem.

You know you could always try booting Linux just to see if the thing will boot, try burning an Ubuntu installation disk and either install it or boot it as a live disc.

Or....use that time to run out and buy Windows 7, depends on your plans I suppose.

    Download Ubuntu here:

Something like this is a great way to see if a machine is going to boot at all, diagnose problems with a windows installation, bad hard drive, etc.

If it boots Linux, it should boot Windows, and if it doesn't then there is a different problem.

yes it's normal. That probably means it's looking for bootable media
