Are dogs valued more than humans?

I realize I'm going to compare 2 different cases with 2 different judges fron 2 different states, but hear me out:

Michael Vick got 23 months in which he served 19 in jail and 4 on house arrest.

Charles Clements:

http://www.examiner.com/dogs-in-national/abc-news-...

He got 4 years probation for shooting and KILLING a man in self defense when the man was defending his dog's urinating activities. Would he have been put in jail if he would've shot the dog instead?

Update:

@Wonder guard - Michael Vick killed & tortured dogs and was taking a major part in illegal dogfighting. Also Charles Clements got 4 years PROBATION which means he's walking the streets as I'm typing this.

From a better less spammy source:

"Prosecutors argued that Clements killed Funches during a dispute that started when the younger man's fox terrier urinated on Clements' yard.

Testimony at the trial showed that after Funches cursed at him, Clements pulled out a .45-caliber handgun and then placed it back in his pocket.

According to the filing, Funches then yelled, "Old man if you pull a gun on me you better plan on using it," then punched Clements in the face."

If there's a crime here - it's felony stupidity on the guy who brought a fist to a gunfight.

No dogs are not more valued than humans NOT at all. And I believe dogs should have more value put on them than they do. A great deal more goes into the Michael Vick case and he should have been penalized more. But first is that dogs in the eyes of the Law are CONSIDERED PROPERTY and nothing more. They are not even viewed as living beings. So in a law suit are can NOT get emotional damages or when it comes to a dog. So if someone shoots your dog and you are heartbroken you can only get the cost of the dog. But If someone shoots your human family member you can sue them for millions which would include emotional distress.

But most of the time in crimes against animals the monsters who hurt them get a slap on the wrist and that is it. No One would ever get a life sentence for murdering an animal but everyday murders are sentenced to life or even death for the killing of another human being.

So it is FAR from the truth that dogs are more valued than humans. And there is more likely more to the story with Charles Clements whether emotional distress was used or a mental problem was he defense. That case itself makes no sense.

Just heard the story on the Clements guy the man he shot was 23 married and had kids and he did not have a gun, not to mention the fact that Clements followed the guy before he shot him. No I don't think dogs are valued more than children, just as many children are being abused or worse in the news. Getting to the point where I am going to quit watching the news. Can't tell me there isn't some GOOD news out there. You murder some one you get slapped, swindle someone and you get life, hello!

Those are too different in my eyes to be compared.

One man murdered another man and got 4 years to me that's not enough. (article says nothing about time or where hes going) Plus whether a dog had anything to do with it means nothing I have heard of guys killing a man in point blank range, to be sentences for 12 years and were out in 6. Has nothing to do with dogs being more important it has to do with people not giving a crap about others.

One man tortured dogs, drowning them, elerocuting them, throwing family pets in to pits with fighting dogs. He got just under 2 years and has been on probation for quite some time now sound fair to me the only thing I don't like is he will be allowed pets in the future. But hes famous so why would would we hold him at our level?

I personally care more about my dog than most of my family. You can't judge me on that since none of you know the people in my family.

Actually, he probably would have just been on probation, and they would most likely make it impossible for him ever to own a animal. They se people like that threats to animals. But for some reason, killing a human, or harming a human gets more penalties. I believe that humans are valued over dogs, Which isn't right. I have 11 dogs, and if anyone ever harmed them, i would make SURE they got some kin of punishment. But no, i don't think he would go to jail if he shot the dog, if he did, it would be for a short period of time.

There are conflicting opinions which lead individuals to believe that animals are valued more than humans. Perhaps most of the ideas derive from the fact that animals such as dogs, are defenseless beings. Being a pet owner is a huge responsibility which is sometimes ignored by many.

Animal rights are meant to set limits to human behavior. If we fail to set clear legal limits to human behavior in relation to animals, it will be impossible to initiate legal proceedings against those who exceed these limits. Animals are vulnerable, defenseless and completely in man's power. Persons who disregard the well being of animals should be brought to court and be held accountable for violating animal rights.

Unfortunately the case of Charles Clements contains details which are not disclosed by all forms of media. Former Marine Charles Clements may have been a disabled veteran with years of mental instability due to his experiences during military activity. We must consider the source of abuse. This man was overly obsessive about his lawn. He was praised in the local community for the lawns breathtaking appearance. It is sad to say, but many ex military members are not given respect because of past controversial activities. Perhaps Clements took pride and absorbed the positive feedback he was receiving from a patch of grass. We will never truly understand each case of abuse until we experience it ourselves.

The justice system is unstable and in some cases, capital punishment is condoned. We are all living beings on this planet, and it is our job to speak up for activities which are unjust. Ultimately everyone should be responsible for abuse.

Please refer to 2:06 for questioning and graphic images of animal abuse. (second video)

Laws can be strange. For example, in most states the penalty for stealing a valuable dog would be much more severe than killing the same dog. Weird.

That news story is hard to believe. What are you even trying to ask in this question?

And I don't even remember what Michael Vick did but it was something completely different than murder.

If someone killed a dude like that, they should get a lot more than 4 years

funchs got what he deserved. wonder how many time the old guy asked funchs not to let his dog piss in his yard. and dog piss does cause brown spots in your grass. now vick shouldn't have went to jail either all he did was fight some dogs and maybe put a few out of their misery.
