you could do steak sauteed and smothered with a onion-mushroom gravy. Saute sirloin, tenderloin, top-loin or round-tip steak after cutting into 3/4" cubes until medium rare to medium. Set steak aside and use the oil/grease from the same pan to make gravy by first sauteing mushrooms and onion (minced) until onions are translucent. Add milk and some flower, along with beef base. Allow gravy to reduce until thickened. Salt and pepper to taste. Smother steak with gravy. Gravy can also be used on mashed potatoes.

Try the Spanish Dish ' Papas Arrugardas' , they are really simple and take 20 minutes to boil. In Spain they are served as a Tapas dish, my family like them with most food - Salads, BBQ's, Meat Dishes, Fish Dishes. Papas Arrugadas What you need are some very small potatoes, washed them well and place in a saucepan. Cover with water and add plenty of sea salt. Boil for 20-30 minutes until the potatoes are cooked . The local Canarian people let the water virtually boil dry, the more water you boil away the more salt on the outside of the potatoes. They should be very wrinkled and covered in salt. In the original passed down recipe the amount of salt was a quarter of the weight of potatoes, but using this you would end up with your potatoes covered very heavily in salt. It's really down to taste, I use very little salt (although remember sea salt is not as strong as normal salt), the potatoes do not end up with a layer of salt on them, but are still wrinkled and taste great.

If you exclude the oven then you are excluding meat.

That sounds like a country side dish so I would go with a country style meat. Like fried chicken, steak, pot roast, brisket, or possibly ribs. I would do dry rub ribs in the oven or slow cooker so they fall apart.
