Will Republicans succeed in raising the retirement age to 69 and cutting social security benefits ?
Republicans have stated and it's now all over the news that they plan on raising the retirement age to 69, while cutting social security benefits we've paid into our entire lives, while they continue to give and give and give to the wealthy corporations who have bought them.
It's time for Americans to realize and understand we are governed by wealthy corporations who tell their Republican slave pundits, what they want done.
I have no link, just turn on the TV. The Republicans will make sure, if they can that this country become totally elite and class warfare will be the way of the future. There will be the haves and the have nots, unless all Americans, Democrats and Republicans wake the hell up, smell the coffee, see what's coming and STOP it from happening.
I'm amazed how Republicans live in the land of delusion. I'm retiring (early) next year at the age of 58, because I had enough sense and was taught as I was growing up to save for a rainy day, in spite of knowing I'd receive social security.
You answer so smugly now. Wait until your turn comes. I promise you'll feel much differently. You don't and won't believe me now. But when you've worked for 30+ years and realize you have 10+ more years to go, you've worked your whole life, you're tired and most of you WON'T have the savings you think you will, then you'll remember this question.
Ignorance is bliss and most of you live in ignorance.

THEY DO THAT AND THEY WILL BE VOTED OUT OF OFFICE.
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF A PERSON GOES ON DISABILITY WHEN HE / SHE IS 63 ????
IF THE REPUBLICANS WANT TO BE HEROES, THEY WILL PUT ALL SOCIAL SECURITY FUNDS INTO ONE ACCOUNT --- MAKE IT SOLVENT AND NOT TOUCH IT FOR ANYTHING ELSE. WHAT THE US GOVERNMENT HAS FOR YEARS IS TO USE IT TO PAY OTHER BILLS.....
AND THAT MY FRIENDS IS FRAUD..........SUPPOSED I TOLD MY BANK THAT I PAID OTHER EXPENSES INSTEAD OF MY HOUSE PAYMENT....YOU THINK THAT THEY WOULD JUST LET THAT GO ????

This isn't a Republican/Democratic issue. America has to rein in the budget, or ALL social security benefits end. What's your preference? 70% or 0%? Retiring at 69 or working till you die?
Social security is INSURANCE ... not a retirement plan. It's there to help insure that you don't outlive your savings ... not to stop you from building up the savings in the first place.

So, what's your fix for social security? With the baby boomers getting ready to retire, you will have more people taking out of social security than people contributing.
It's time for liberals to understand that this country can't keep giving out entitlements to buy votes. Raising the retirement age to 69 has nothing to do with "wealthy corporations". It's a government program.
The only people who are promoting class warfare is the liberals.

If you think your Democrats aren't doing plenty of favors for their big business friends you are crazy. Both parties work for big business. Both presidential candidates suspended their campaigns to see TARP go through. Wake up and try to see past your simplistic Republicans = Evil worldview. They BOTH work for the rich and powerful.
As for social security. They should change they name of that program to the steal from your kids fund. The majority of collectors today collect far more than they put into it. And it certainly wont be around for most working class people today. Do you like paying out the @ss for a program that wont be there for you or are you one of the ones collecting it?

I thought they were going to raise the age to 69 and remove the limit when SSI is no longer deducted. They also wanted to buy out people who did not want to draw social security by paying them back what they paid into it over their lifetime or something similar to that. I never heard they were going to decrease the monthly payment amount.

You can retire any time you want. If you want to collect social security you have to wait until you qualify. You have to qualify to collect YOUR OWN MONEY! It's a VERY broken system. Government cannot handle anything effectively. Time to do away with Social Security. Let the politicians get a new piggy bank.

Oh I hope not, I hope they lower the age to 60, double the benefits, and mandate a 30 hour work week, because thats worked out so well in France.

actually if conservatives would have run the system from day one....people would retire after 30 years on the job with a pension of $4000+/month(today's $$$) on the average.the frigging parasites in the government have been raping the system since inception.thank the liberals....

Welllllllllllll, "republicans" and "succeedng" are two words, rarely found in the same sentence, when it comes to republicans, but in this case.............you may have done the trick here......because if it involves screwing the little guy.........then, yes, they are very good at that and just might "succeed" with this evil plan. But then, all they succeed at, is being losers, so does that count?
