best alcohol for a first new years drink?

the only thing i have ever drank is 2 Smirnoff beers at a time which got me a little tipsy but i felt so full i couldnt drink any more. so this yr for new years i want to drink something heavy that will get me wasted but not to wasted. i dont want to be puking just want to have a good time and really get drunk for the first time. so what would you suggest? champane? liquor? wine? --beer tastes nasty except sissy beer like Smirnoff ice--

when i went to the store there was so many different ones i was overwhelmed bc i had no idea what any of them were so please help
