No, your doing fine with the treat portions. I wouldn't make him do more than about 5-10 tricks though in one time period. If you do he might get sick, like giving a child to much candy/sugar. I taught my dog how to sit by pushing her but down while i had the treat in my hand & clearly saying the command sit. She eventually got the idea. Just a tip, when your training your dog make sure there is not a lot of distraction & make sure you are serious.

I've used my puppy's food as treats.Even just a pinch of a treat is good.Lots of praise goes a long way.Mine is happy if I get real excited about his accomplishments.I was afraid he would expect a treat every time he did something, therefore not try to learn without a treat.

Treats should not make up more than 10% of a dog's diet. Pupperoni is also a very poor quality treat that should be avoided. It is full of chemicals and byproducts. For treats I give my dogs pieces of boiled chicken, beef, or bison. It is always best to give treats made from fresh whole foods. Dog treats sold at Walmart are always poor quality and are not at all fresh. I would never give my dogs pupperoni! Stick with boiled beef, boiled chicken, or boiled venison.
