Spiritually Speaking, why is a pair of pants a single item?
Pair (implies more than one) and pants is plural for pant (also implies more than one).
Nobody says "be right out, just need to put on a pair of shirts"

I bet you weren't expecting an answer to this. Pants originally were two separate legs which were tied together once they were put on. Later they were joined but were still called a pair of pants. To make this relevant to Religion and Spirituality......Jesus never wore pants.

Etymology, my dear sir!
Originally, a pant leg, referred to a covering for only one leg. However, once a garment was devised which covered both legs simultaneously, it was called "pants."
