Binding breast for ballet?
I have a small figure but huge breast and it really bothers me. My dance instructor made me wear a bra to perform because i was "bouncing". Its really embarrassing. All the other girls in my class have that perfect ballet body and I get so jealous. The bra didn't really help because it pushed them up and made them look bigger. I feel like people aren't watching me dance because they are so distracting. I've actually cried over this a few times. I want to be normal! I was thinking about binding them with an ace bandage. Is this a bad idea? Would it show under my costumes? Is there any health risks if I do this?
I asked the same question in women's health but I think more people would know about this stuff in this category. I'm not a lesbian but I support gay rights. :)

Hey,
I don't think I can give you a magic answer for this, but I would say definitely don't use bandages or any other sort of compression - it will show through your costume, may move during a performance, and will be very uncomfortable too - bad all round!
I have an ex who is a 34D and a pro dancer, and I'm amazed your instructor advised you to wear a bra - they are forbidden by my ex's studio for all dance because they show through costumes and look very ugly, and as you say they also 'bulk up' the breasts and so make you look larger than you really are. She dances all her classes without a bra, and unless you are very substantially larger than her I really think that's your best option. You shouldn't have to dress any differently from the other girls, and I am sure (because I've had this discussion with my ex!) that you feel like you're bouncing much more than you really look to be from an observer's perspective. I can also say that a dancer with natural curves looks FANTASTIC - really very beautiful, honestly - I'm certain you look fab and really shouldn't feel self-conscious about your chest (although I can understand why you are, under the circumstances). Be proud of your body and your art - both are beautiful. :)

Most them girls are probably jealous of you for having big breasts... but anyway try a sports bra if that doesn't work then I suggest a binder to wear just while dancing.
Go to T kingdom? I don't suggest ace bandages, so many health problems. I really suggest sports bra, if one doesn't work try doubling up.

I'm kind of wondering why you thought people in this category would know more, honestly.

There are health risks with ace bandages, mainly damage to your ribs, difficulty breathing and a slight increased breast cancer risk but only if you wear it eight hours a day, every day and so tightly as to make yourself look completely flat, which doesn't seem to be what you're going for. If you do it just tightly enough to make yourself look a cup size or two smaller then you'd be fine. There's also the frog bra, which gets you pretty much as flat as a sports bra can http://www.titlenine.com/product/310900.do
