Not just Slovaks but almost all of the slavic nations have this along with "skiy skiya" and "in ina"
ova,ov,skiy, skaya,in,ina, or inova just means "belongs to" Also another one would be "vich or vic"
The reason some girls dont have the add on to their name is because if theyre born outside of the slavic nations and the grammar rules dont apply there. Ive seen this in the states as well.

In Czech and Slovak people add -ová to all last names (even foreign ones) of females to make them compatible with the Czech and Slovak grammar. If you're a man and your last name is Dvorák, then your sister's or wife's last name would be Dvoráková. In Czech J K Rowling, for example, would be J K Rowlingová.
