why is he rolling so soon?
hi everyone.my son is 12 weeks and will be 3 months on sunday.since the time he hit 2 months i have noticed that he is rolling a lot.but now its to the point that at night when i check up on him in his crib hes on his tummy and i have to put him back on his back numerous times because i know hes at risk for sids if he sleeps like that.i feel scared like what if i don't turn him back over in time.hes only 12 weeks is it normal for him to be so advance? when do babies normal start to roll? do i continue to put him back on his back or let him be?

no need to worry about sids, i had my 2 daughters 15 months apart and got exact opposite advice on how to have them sleep. First daughter slept on her back, second daughter slept on her tummy.
I would let him be, he's going to try to get as comfortable as possible just like we all do when we're sleeping. Kids do some weird stuff in their sleep, I wouldn't wake him just to roll him over.

Normally most babies don't roll until about 4 months old. It's perfectly normal though for babies to roll earlier. My oldest son was 4 months old when he rolled but my youngest was almost 9 weeks.
When you lay him down at night lay him on his back. If he rolls over in his sleep then it is fine to leave him be. If he is rolling then he can get himself out of danger if needed.

My son was premature and in the hospital the nurses had to fight with him to sleep how they wanted him because within the first week he would roll, of course in the NICU hey like babies on their stomachs because babies breath easier in this position and up there they have all these monitors for breathing. Some babies start to do it as soon as they have the strength. I wouldnt worry about him sleeping on his stomach once he can lift his head enough to roll over. Just clear his bed of anything that is plush and sometimes the bumper pad if it is plush. They want babies on their back or sides when they cant lift their head or move to well because they can suffocate in the mattress or anything around them. Once they can roll over or lift the head really well this risk is very slim.

It is completely normal for babies to start rolling at 2-3 months. The average age is 3-4 months so he is right on track :)
Don't worry about him sleeping on his stomach, just put him to bed on his back and if he rolls over then let him be because he is old enough to lift his head and roll over so he will not get SIDS, that concern is mostly for newborns. He will be fine :)
Good luck!

He'll be fine, he has enough strength now to roll over so he should be able to turn his head enough to either side when he rolls onto his tummy. You can put him back on his back before you go to bed and check on him again through the night but chances are he will roll over and go back to sleep on his tummy if that's what he likes.
Every baby is different, some like to wiggle, roll and move and some just like to relax on their backs. Mine's a little squiggler too, rolled over from his front to back his first time doing tummy time and scared the crap out of both of us lol. A friend of mine learned the hard way she couldn't leave her one month old son alone on his back when he managed to roll over and almost off her queen size bed! He also sleeps on his tummy because as much as she rolls him onto his back, he hates to sleep that way.

Let him be, once they can roll over by themselves they should be fine sleeping on their stomach or back!

My youngest was rolling his first week, some kids can early some late (his older brothers weren't rolling until 6 months). Just keep putting him to sleep on his back, no pillows, stuffed animals or blankets in his crib.

dont worry.....say a prayer for him every night and dont use pillows in the crib. If youre there yes you can turn him over. Enjoy him. My son is 32 now.
