Can someone suggest local places to visit in Seward, Alaska?
Heading to the Kenai Peninsula this summer for a family vacation (we're all grown-ups - no kids.) One of the cities we will visit is Seward. If anyone can suggest places, restaurants, or activities, we would certainly appreciate it. Please tell me about places you LOVED, and places you wish you would have avoided. Thanks in advance!

Seward is an awesome little town, that THRIVES on tourism in the summer, and fishing. Yes its expensive to buy out of the tourist shops, but be smart and hit the local store....which is called EAGLE. If it were that expensive to buy things, it would not hold a local population year round.
NOW things to see. 4th ave is the main strip. from the harbor to town you can see all the shops. The harbor, which if you are coming from a bus, train, or cruise ship, you will find it asap. The harbor houses some of THE best sea food you will ever find. the harbor also houses many little gift shops that peddle the common IMPORTED drivel you will find at every tourist shop. Keep your eye out for local made products!!! Catch a whale watching tour, I promise you, you will not regret it. Prince William sound is breath taking....even after the horror of the Exxon Valdez Spill. Wildlife is abundant everywhere. If you love to fish, take a day fishing trip. The crews all know what they are doing, and strive to make it the best experience ever.
Dont forget to go to the glacier. There are local tour buses that go there every hour or few hours. Its one of Alaska's few walk up glaciers.
Then of course is the Sea Life center. it houses many animals native to alaska. They house wild critters on the mend too.
All in all, Seward is a great little town. There are a few easy trails up on first ave called 1st and 2 lake trails? Its been awhile since I been on them, but ask any local and they will point you to the right direction.
be sensible, no need to wear winter gear. A good pair of walking shoes is sufficient. and bring a rain coat!! Seward is like the second rainyest town in Alaska. Please dont forget sun screen! some days actually can hit the high 80's, but average mid 75 or so. and pick up bug spray the moment you get into alaska ;-) the misquotes can be a deal breaker on how much you enjoy your trip here.

seward is a small town, you can take 15min walking whole town, harbor(fishman wharf) cruise tour, Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska SeaLife Center.
you can walk down the harbour to find out your favorite restaurant, just reminder AK is very expensive, a bottle of water costs $2.50, a regular dish cost $10 to $20, prepare one week trip for $5000
