The reason why there are too many "bowl" games is because sponsors who fund these games are getting a profit in the long run as they host these games in national television and also gets a chance to show their commercials.
This is all for money.

I agree with Rex. It used to be that bowl games were a nice exhibition. It started with the Rose Bowl and the Big Ten/Pac-10 matchup. Others took it from there, with their own conference winner v. conference winner games taking place. Eventually, the 2nd place teams (and ND, the independent) wanted in on it. Then came the 3rd place teams.
There used to never be sponsors... the Rose Bowl was the Rose Bowl; the Sugar Bowl was the Sugar Bowl; the Peach Bowl was the Peach Bowl. Now, the Rose Bowl is "The Rose Bowl presented by Vizio", the Sugar Bowl is the "AllState Sugar Bowl" and the Peach Bowl is the "Chick-Fil-A Bowl"... kind of sad, really.
As sponsors have gotten involved, the number of bowl games have increased. Now, we're treated to 6-6 5th place team in the Big East v. 7-6 4th place team from the WAC. It's treated as a "win-win" for everyone- even though the schools (especially the smaller schools) end up losing money on these bowl trips. What ends up happening, though, is we get a watered down product.
It's not so bad, though... just a few more bowls added and EVERYONE will get to partake in the festivities. Throw in the convolution (breaking up the Big Ten/ Pac Ten rivalry... really, Wisconsin and Stanford couldn't have played? What about "tradition"?) and corruption in the "big time" BCS games (All-State's CEO convincing OSU to keep their star players eligible for the Sugar Bowl) and we're that much closer to a playoff.

Actually there is only ONE, and that is the one your team is in, in response to the idea of "there are really only 5". Well ok there are 2, the one YOUR team plays in and the Rose Bowl. I don't give a crap about the BCS Title game, don't care who wins the BCS title. It's really meaningless, they aren't REALLY National Champions as the NCAA doesn't recognize them as Champions. Yes that's right the NCAA DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THE BCS CHAMPIONS AS CHAMPIONS, because the NCAA only recognizes Champions if the team won a playoff format(like Div 1FCS(Formerly 1AA) Div 2, and Div 3).

Well there are a lot of college football teams and everyone likes to see their favorite team in a bowl game. No one is forcing you to watch any of them.

I hear this from people and I just don't understand it. No one forces anyone to watch them. Just watch what you want and let the others go. Leave them for people at those schools or their alums to enjoy...
