worth it to repair my jeep engine or just get a rebuilt one?

going to cost at least 1k to fix think it needs valve seat and probably wrist pins worried about future problems after this i can get a rebuilt one installed for 3.7k so it is alot more but after the 1k is spent they may find out the block is damaged and i need new engine anyhow

Update:

junk yard engines are really tough to get around here they are really wanted and on the internet used engines started at 1200 and up rebuilts were 1700 and both still needed installing

i worry about the seat falling out again i see stories on the internet or something else going bad and then the money for the repair is wasted

Is this what the mechanic told you? at 5 dollars per seat and 8 per wrist pin seems like you're getting a little ripped off cause it definitely doesn't take 10 hours at a mechanics rate of 60 dollars an hour +400 in parts to fix those problems. Shop around.

you do not point out any after marketplace mods, like raise equipment, outsized tires, and so on... so i could say for a inventory ninety six that would not run, $500, perhaps $800 if this is sparkling. Mods truly do not upload a lot sell fee to a rig besides. that's why those that construct a XJ shouldn't anticipate to retrieve their investment in the event that they choose/prefer to sell it. i don't understand if any engine injury exchange into completed via the cracked head, yet whilst that's the only difficulty i does not replace the engine. i could replace the top. 140k on a 4.0L engine isn't something. i could locate out what led to the top to crack. The 2000+ fashions had a difficulty with the heads, the 1999 and till now did not, a minimum of from what I even have examine.

Def a rip off. If it's the 4.0 then just go to a salvage yard those can be had running mint for around $200-$400 and swapping it yourself ain't too hard. If you have your own mechanic hopefully he will do it cheap otherwise get a buddy :) if you will be paying $3700 for a rebuilt 5.2 or 5.9 with aftermarket mods and installation is say that's a steal

I agree. It's not that big a deal to fix your problems ( my brother will do it in a day, me, in two days). Sounds like a lot of money. I would check the "junk" yards for a wrecked Jeep with a good engine. You can sometimes get a really good deal this way. The 1000 is not too bad I guess, but the 3700 is a rip-off.
