Computer won't detect flash drive?

My computer runs Windows XP service pack 3. The problem is that it won't detect a flash drive. I've tried a new 1 gig SanDisk as well as an old 128 mb and neither are detected on this machine. Others yes, but not this one. I've tried all four USB ports and none detect them. The ports work with other applications and the device manager shows all as being functional.

I also have a card reader installed on the JP1 connection and here's the crazy part. The computer detects the reader and it's four drives and will detect an old 32 MB compact flash card but it won't detect a SD card.

I went to the Microsoft website and downloaded a scan program for the USB-CD drives and nothing came up missing or failed. There was one update I was missing, but it has nothing to do with the USB. Nothing changed after downloading the update. I don't know if it would detect flash drives previously because I was given the computer and had to install a new motherboard. The CD and floppy drive all function properly. Anyone genius out there who can help me? Thanks!

find a driver finder software to assist you with missing drivers.

Source(s): you can try this one but i have not tried this one before http://www.driverfiles.net/Other/SanDisk/SanDisk-S...

Insert the flash drive into the usb port.

    Wait 5 seconds.

    Double click on "my Computer"

Scroll down to the "F" drive.

Right click and select "format this drive"

If the "F" drive doesn't appear, refresh the page.

When you double click on "my computer" after you insert the drive, what shows up?

    A: floppy

    C: hard drive

    D: Backup

    E: CD rom

    F: removable device

    G: other.

You may have to go into the BIOS and set the MB to read the devices before windows boots

Restart the computer and tap F8 while the system boots.

There you should be able to select boot devices.

Older computers work in a different format than Windows 7.

living house windows may be attempting to assign a force letter that is already taken. bypass into workstation administration (properly click my workstation and choose manage). on the left decide on disk administration lower than storage. Now plug on your USB force and see what letter it assigns it. If that letter is already taken then decide on the force and regulate the letter to something no longer in use.
