Is it ok to give my puppies the food i cook?
I have 4 puppies and i feed them Burns puppy food with a bit of baby meat in it.I dont like tinned dog food so my grown up dogs get veg and minced turkey with rice or pasta so i wondered if this might be to much for the puppies.I would like to feed them my own food then i know what goes in it but i thought it might be to much for the little ones who are 7 weeks old today, what do you think
I know not to give my dogs chocalate and they dont get scraps its proper food but when i think what they put in tinned baby food god knows whats in it.

I'd stick with the Burns puppy food, which is a good feed and has everything a 7 week old puppy needs in it. You could add a bit of Burns own tinned meat, to increase the flavour in the complete Burns, but normally speaking I'd stay away from giving them human food (other than maybe a little cooked chicken breast mixed in, if you prefer - turkey meat is very rich). If you start them on human food, chances are they'll not tuck into their puppy food, which has all the nutrients a growing puppy needs, which human food doesn't.
Your adults would be better off on a complete feed too, unless you are adding the necessary vitamins etc. to their diet?

No just stick to a complete puppy food. You do realise that dogs cannot digest pasta don't you? Also why are you cooking the meat? your taking away all the nutrition from the meat for your older dogs. If you where to buy a good quality complete dog food you would know where it came from and what went in it because it is stated on the back of the packet.
If you are insistent of feeding cooked meat then I suggest you go and buy all the extra vitamins needed in their food. You should also consider RAW feeding as it is better than cooked.

Hi. It's amazing how much a dogs behaviour is affected by what they eat. But I suppose if you ate take out food all the time you probably wouldn't feel too hot. There's no way we can know for sure what chemicals are put into dog food. The only way to be sure is to make you're own at home. It can work out really cheap and you know they're getting healthy food. You can add years onto there life. If you want some recepies I've put a link below. Just copy and paste it into your browser.

Dry dog food is too hard for an 8 week old puppy. Why don't you first try adding warm water to his kibble and letting it soften up for him. If you are going to add raw meat, I would add ground beef or sirloin or something that the butcher grinds up for this young of a puppy.

I would give it to the puppies too. I'm not sure why you didn't start them on it..? My dogs are on Wellness and get turkey/ chicken / eggs/ or sometimes beef cooked for them every day. You would need to somehow ween them onto it so as not to give them upset stomachs. Not too much protein though, they say that can accelerate growth and be bad for bone/joint health later on. Goodluck, and kudos for feeding your dogs well.

Any vet will tell you that feeding your dog, scraps or 'human' food is just not a good idea.
For instance, chocolate can actually kill a dog if ingested.
Stick to higher quality dog foods to be safe, dog treats can also be purchased separately.

i personally wouldn't but you could mix some veg etc (nothing too rich though) in with some puppy food. if they get diarrhoea you'll know its not good for them.
some dogs have better stomachs than others.
i'm sure it will be fine if you give them healthy food but check with your vet when you take them for their check up for peice of mind.
my vet wasnt happy when i told him my pup was fed weetabix from the person i got her from but she was fine with it and it didnt do her any harm.
