What are some good Stephen King books?
I've been hearing his name a lot lately, and wanted to try reading one of his books. Will you please recommend which one I should start with?

IMO the one to start with is Different Seasons; 4 novellas - very different from one another. Three of them have become films.
One is about redemption
Two are coming of age stories, one dark, one light though it starts dark.
The last a horror story in the tradition of Poe and Lovecraft.
My personal favorite is The Stand, epic, great characters on a quest, a classic good vs evil story.
Another favorite The Talisman. Co written with Peter Straub this fantasy knits two worlds together and echos in several other King books

Many of his books have great plots but bad pacing. He has trouble keeping the reader interested. The Stand, It, and the Shining suffer from this.
Good stories that are shorter include the Dead Zone, Pet Sematary, Thinner... etc.
I'd go for a shorter one to keep your interest.

i think you can read Full Dark, No Stars
"I believe there is another man inside every man, a stranger . . ." writes Wilfred Leland James in the early pages of the riveting confession that makes up "1922," the first in this pitch-black quartet of mesmerizing tales from Stephen King. For James, that stranger is awakened when his wife, Arlette, proposes selling off the family homestead and moving to Omaha, setting in motion a gruesome train of murder and madness.
