Find a weedline in 8-12FT of water. Cast your HJ10/HJ12 along this line. (Trolling Husky's can be productive too.) The basic "silver/black back" is a good color for Pike.
When using HJ's, it's important to retrieve them using the "sweep-pause" method. (The whole point of the HJ is the suspend feature.) The "sweep-pause" method??
- Cast the lure as far as you can on 14-15LB line, (you may want to use a Fluro leader of 20-25LB) Put your rod-tip almost in the water, then sweep it 4-5FT. Slowly take up the slack line, paying attention for strikes, (usually Pike will hit the lure when it's suspended).
