I do this routinely, and other people have done it for me. It's been a part of human interactions long before that silly movie with Haley Joel Osment.
Examples:
- give money to a stranger
- stop at a traffic accident to help or call police
- help somebody with packages
- help somebody who has fallen
It's called "being kind". And people don't expect to be paid when they do these things. They do often hope (and sometimes say) that it will lead the person helped to do something kind in the future. In other words, to "pay it forward".
A very routine and simple one is to let someone in, in a difficult merge in traffic. This kind of thing always has IMMEDIATE results. You start seeing people behind you doing little traffic kindnesses, and the person helped doing kind things in their turn.
