Safety stock is just a buffer; it's a quantity of components you have on hand so that you can keep building for some amount of time if you suddenly stop receiving shipments.

Take the number of components you use in a given amount of time and multiply by the number of days you want to be able to run.

If you use 10 parts per day and want to run for 10 days you need 100 parts. If you use 10 parts per hour and want to run for 10 days you need 2400 parts.
