Some leaders can be brilliant, thoughful and economically successful people. Meanwhile, some leaders can be f***ing stupid (and I say that instead of "retarded" because I know that the level of stupidiy I am referencing would be insulting to people labeled that way - "retarded" doesn't mean doing something so foolish or selfish that over 200 people die from your negligence).

The problem with unionization is that, yes, some union leaders can end up going on a power trip. On the other hand, union leader power trips are nearly incomparable to the destructive power of stupid leadership.

Not all leadership is bad. My parents run a corporation where they treat people well enough that unionization isn't even a consideration. Instead they fear losing the leadership.

In a unionized workforce, the leadership was negligent, selfish, authoritarian and, many times, abusive. Unionized workforces exist because of hostile or incompetent leadership. Would an abusive or inept leader like to see the evidence and natural consequences of their poor behaviors go away? Sure they would! Their egos matter more to them than the lives of their workers. But let's not forget, they have problems that are deadly to their workforce and that is f***ing stupid.

So does Obama love unions? I doubt it. But they are a necessary evil, yes.

Then again, if you want to get patriotic about it, look at the Declaration of Independence and the Lee Resolution preceeding it and declaring war with Britain. Is unionization really so different in spirit? They listed their grievences and those pleas hit deaf ears. They formed up and opposed oppression. I'm sorry, but it doesn't get more American than that. Love it or hate it, unions are Americana.

Liberals don't need unions to control their lives and tell them what to think. Unlike conservatives, we are quite capable of thinking on our own. What we DO need unions for is to protect workers' rights and to form a cohesive unit in bargaining for those rights. We even have a chance to vote on who our representatives are...very democratic. Obama likes unions, because Obama understands that labor is the backbone of our society. Republicans hate unions because Republicans are owned by the corporate interests, both foreign and domestic, who feel that a safe work environment is not as important as profit.

He likes unions because they fight for the rights of the working man against corporations and the wealthy elite. The people who oppose unions are the ones really being controlled since they are buying the propaganda perpetuated by big corporations.

My husband's union makes sure he's safe at work, is treated fairly, and protects his wage and our benefits, which he works his *** off for. Our union certainly does not control our lives or tell us what to think.

He likes Unions because they donate lots of money to Democrats who run for office. Look at how much money they gave to his election campaign. What we have here, is vote buying at its finest. Only in Unions do they take your hard earned dues and siphon it and direct it to try and sway an election.

The sad part is, the rank and file have no voice in who or where the money goes, its up to those Union big-wigs making all those big bucks.
