Japanese help themselves. Haitians sit on the ruins and beg.

There are a few that spring to mind Haiti only had an Earthquake, the Country had more poverty stricken people than rich Affluent people, Haiti didn't have nuclear power plants, Japan is much more well equiped to attempt saving as many of their people as possible and yes the response was much slower for Haiti! sorry if I am too hard here.

Aside from what has already been posted, the Japanese are very proud and honorable people, and also very generous... for example they donated $500,000 to the US in response to Hurricane Katrina.
The Japanese people's pride is extremely admirable. Was watching the news last night, and a spokesman for the Prime Minister when asked about foreign aid stated something along the lines of "Right now we are only employing our own Japanese resources, but if we need to we will ask help from foreign governments." The Japanese hate to cause problems for others. For example, while rescuers were pulling out people from the rubble many of the victims were crying and apologizing to the rescuers because they felt guilty that they were being saved instead of someone else. One old lady was crushed under a shelf and broke several bones in her leg, but she was still crying and apologizing to the rescuers because they saved her instead of someone else.
I am in no way bashing Haiti, but this level of courtesy and generosity simply does not exist there. Even prior to the earthquake it was such a decrepit country that the people there simply did not have the means to think about much else besides themselves and their own families and because of this Haiti was extremely dependent on foreign aid. Haiti did not have any resources to repair the damage on its own, without foreign aid.

They are both very unique, because of being in different places. Haiti could not pull their resources together because they had none to work with. They just used what they had at hand. This disaster is more wide spread because not only was there both an earthquake there was also a tsunami and a nuclear plant issue which they are having trouble with.

Well, Haiti had basically no resources to use after the disaster. However, if you read an article on how Japan is dealing with it, you'll hear how well they're doing and the amount of resources they can put in.

Haiti is a third-world country; Japan's economy is strong.
Bottom line is human suffering knows no boundaries.
