Have you noticed that many young people don't use or understand what a land line is?

No, but then the young people I know aren't stupid.

I'm a young person and I understand that a land line is especially important during storms. My parents live in a dead zone, and, quite often, that land line was the only way for them to call the power company to let them know the power was out. Or to call the neighbors to ask how many of their trees had fallen over.

yes not to mention the dozens of items the baby boomer generation grew up with. Here are just a few that I remember.

1] a poor mans color T. V.-for 99cents you could buy a plastic sheet that one would tape to the tv screen, with blue at the top 25%[for sky],a yellowish gold shade for the middle 50% and then you had a green shade [grass] for the bottom 25%.Once in awhile it would work out pretty good if the right scene was shown plus it was better than black and white.

2]Beta movie tapes [mid 70's to mid 80's] then V.H.S. was the new craze,it won't be long till D.V.D.'s are a distant memory. It's already started -blue ray and whatever is around the bend.

3]the 5&10 cent store was like a small neighborhood deparment store.McCory's was one such chain.this was where I first saw a submarine sandwich, price:19cents and I only remember one time that my mom could afford to get us one.

4]we would take[or ride] the streetcar to go downtown Pittsburgh or just about anywhere in the surrounding area's

If you're using Y!A as a criteria, it's actually the programmer's fault. Just for fun, go to Ask questions and start your topic with PHONE as in which PHONE is better and see what the keywords suggested are. By default, it goes to Land Phones. Now ask "Which CELL phone is better" and see the result :-)

Cloud that up with VoIP and SIP phones and there might be a reason.

    I think that's a bit extreme.

Either wau, land lines are a dated means of communication. My mum has a landline but uses her mobile phone before using that. Same with me. Also, a lot of mobile phone providers offer cheaper deals to make calls than landline providers do.

Yes I have, and I'm only 20. Its so convenient and cheap but young people dont understand either of those words.

I'm a young person and I know what a landline is but I think they were for back in the day but now with cellphones there useless .

definitely... if you stick around in the LAND PHONE section long enough you will see that their are way more questions to report for posting in the wrong section, than there are to answer...

We are moving away from land lines ... it's like the fax machine is obsolete.
